Gatlinburg, TN (University of Tennessee Field Station) August 8, 2008 Although Caddisflies are usually found around water, this one was photographed on a light sheet during the Bugguide 2008 Gathering. Caddisflies are aquatic during the first 3 stages of their life. Many of the larvae build elaborate tubes from sticks, small stones, and even snail shells.
I saw this beautiful caddisfly at Tremont Field School in the Great Smoky Mountains.
spp.? on the floor of the dorm at Tremont in the Smokies. She was far away from the river where she needed to be to lay her eggs. I put her on a leaf to be able to photograph her better. The following photo shows her eggs. Stoneflies are in the order Plecoptera.
