Forester Moth subfamily Hodges #9309 Oak Ridge, TN (Haw Ridge) - Anderson, Co. April 4, 2010 This was not a very cooperative little moth, I had to follow it into the woods to photograph it! The caterpillars of this moth make their shelter in folded grapevine leaves, which they also eat.
Noctuid Hodges #8876 Oak Ridge, TN (Anderson Co.) June 4, 2010 This moth was on the ceiling of my carport, it is hard to take a photo straight up! It was upset and fluttering its top wings, showing the brightly colored under wings. This is an interesting defense mechanism used to startle predators.
Hodges #8876 Oak Ridge, TN (Anderson Co.) June 4, 2010 It looks like a completely different moth with its wings closed!
