Regal Moth Caterpillar; Citheronia regalis

#7706 This huge caterpillar is about 6" long. It was eating the leaves of a Sweet Gum tree. After eating its fill, it will pupate underground for 2 years before becoming a Regal Moth. The long orange horns are harmless, they are used to intimidate birds and other predators.
