has its tentacles open. It was found in a tide pool. Anemones are related to jellyfish, corals, and freshwater hydras, like them, they have stingers called "nematocysts" in their tentacles for catching fish.
Sometimes it is hard to get out of the "teacher mode" when I am away from school, I had to bite my tongue to keep from saying something when I saw a middle school-aged girl poke her finger into the middle of an anemone like this one. I thought to myself, "Too bad it doesn't have teeth so it could bite her!"
