like the one in this photo (they form at temperatures between 14 - 21 degrees F. I took this photo on black velvet that I stapled to a piece of cardboard. The material works beautifully for snowflake photography, the fibers hold the flakes up, they are not highly reflective and the snow brushes off them easily. Now I can't wait for another snowfall! :) Snow is white because it reflects all the colors of the spectrum.
Feb. 3, 2009 What a difference a day makes! Yesterday we had the big, wet, clumpy snowflake clusters. Today the temperature dropped and I was able to get some individual snowflakes. I caught them on black velvet that I attached to a piece of cardboard. The velvet is not as reflective as other kinds of material, so it works very well!
