It is possible to ride in one of these horse-drawn sleighs to get close to the elk. It cost $16 for adults to ride for a little over an hour. We had a naturalist in the sleigh who told about the elk.

We drove up a snow-covered road in Tetons National Park. Everything went fine when we drove up, but we slid on ice on the way back and ended up in the snowbank! Fortunately, a local family who had a tow rope came by and pulled us out. The car didn't sustain any damage, thank goodness.
