During the 2009 Roan Mountain Naturalists' Rally, the Miller Homestead area of the park was dedicated as a Monarch Butterfly Waystation. The keynote speaker of the rally was Dr. Lincoln Brower, a world-renowned specialist on Monarch butterflies. He got the honor of posting the sign on the kiosk.
