Look for plants like this Small-flowered Alumroot growing in holes in the sandstone cliffs.

Hazard Cave has some interesting erosion marks in the overhanging sandstone cliff. Be sure and look for bird nests in the many holes.

The Natural Bridge is a large sandstone arch. The trail goes over and under the bridge. It would be a very lovely place to visit in May when the Mountain Laurel blooms. The park has lots of wildflowers, including: Rosebay Rhododendron, Doll's Eyes, Goldenrod, Asters, Indian Cucumber Root, Spotted Wintergreen, and Trailing Arbutus. It is a nice place to find flowers for the entire blooming season.

People can rent rowboats at the park to explore the small lake. A sand beach swimming area is open during the summer.

I was delighted to find these Inflated Bladderwort flowers blooming in the lake! These plants are carnivorous, but don't worry, they don't eat anything bigger than a pinhead! (Please excuse the lousy picture quality, I couldn't use my tripod due to the water and the mud!)

The Indian Rockhouse is an easy walk down a trail that is less than a mile from the parking area at the entrance of the park.

Pickett State Park is located north of Jamestown, TN on the Cumberland Plateau. It has a small lake, a natural bridge, rockhouses, and a sandstone cave. There are nice hiking trails and campgrounds in the park. map...

There is a wooden boardwalk on the trail to Hazard Cave, it protects the plantlife and keeps numerous feet from doing damage to the area.

The Indian Rockhouse is located below a huge sandstone cliff. It would have made a nice habitat for the early people of this area.

This wire and wood slat swinging bridge is a fun way to get across the lake to the island.

Hazard Cave has a floor of deep sand. There are two wooden benches for stopping and enjoying the scenery.

I was amazed to find these beautiful pink Indian Pipes (Monotropa uniflora) growing on the forest floor on the Hazard Cave Trail. These saprophytic plants are normally pure white since they contain no chlorophyll. I have never seen them such a dark shade of pink. (oddity)

This fern has found a foothold in the side of the cliff above the Hazard Cave.
