Madder Family Big Cypress Preserve, FL Dec. 16, 2009 This was a very common roadside plant in south Florida. It could almost be mistaken for a member of the Mint Family because of its square stem. However, the shape of the flowers and the whorled leaves indicate it is in the Madder Family.

Spurge Family Sanibel Island, FL Dec. 15, 2009 Jeez, I'm glad I don't have to write that scientific name often! What a mouthful that is! This plant is related to the Poinsettia.
