I found it growing in an empty lot near the hotel in Las Cruces. Thanks to Dick Larson, who came across this photo and emailed me to tell me what it is!
Pink Family Las Cruces, NM (Aguirre Springs) Oct. 6, 2008 This is a woodland version of Chickweed. It grew on the heavily shaded, north side of the Pine Tree Trail. (That's why I had to use my flash to get this photo!)
Las Cruces, NM (Aguirre Springs) Oct. 4, 2008 There were a couple of patches of this plant near the Aguirre Springs campground. This plant was photographed next to the gate and the cattle guard. It can be very hard to identify flowers by just looking at photographs. I finally found it on this very helpful website by the botanists at Western New Mexico University: Southern New Mexico Wildflowers
