Aster Family These are not the most attractive of the wildflowers, but they are an interesting type of composite. Note the metallic green bee on the flowers in the center of the cluster. Perennial Where seen: Oak Ridge, Piney Falls SNA, Great Smoky Mountains NP
Pea Family near Fischer, TX Hwy. 32 March 28, 2009 These shrubs have a lot of little curved, sharp prickles on them, giving them their common name Cat Claw.
Spurge Family Bastrop, TX March 26, 2009 These plants were quite common in the woods and along the roadsides. They are in the same genus as the Tread Softly plant I've seen in my parents' neighborhood in the panhandle of Florida. However, this one is like Tread Softly on steroids!
