Dogwood Family
Heath Family May 7, 2005 Dog-Hobble has fragrant clusters of small white bell-shaped flowers. It gets its name from the way it grows in dense thickets. Hunting dogs pursuing animals would be stopped (hobbled) by the tangled stems and the stiff, saw-toothed leaves. This plant is common in the lower elevations of the Smokies. It blooms in April and early May. Perennial - Shrub Where seen: Great Smoky Mountains NP
