Rose Family July 22, 2005 Franklin Co., MA These Canadian Burnet flowers were one of the reasons I risked, and got, wet blue jeans crossing the river. It was worth the effort, I got a couple of new flowers for my life-list! :)
Composite Family Franklin Co., MA Note the clasping leaves that seem to perforate the stem, thus the species name.
Cucumber Family Hinsdale, MA July 21, 2005 I spied this white flowered vine growing on the side of Pam's yard. The plant's genus name comes from the Greek words echinos for "hedgehog" and cystis for "bladder" in reference to the prickly, fleshy green fruit. The difference between this plant and its close relative, the Bur-Cucumber, is that it's flowers have 6 petals rather than 5.
