Aster Family Waelder, TX March 26, 2009 These plants were very common along the roadsides near San Antonio and Austin. They are composite flowers, but they do not have ray flowers ("petals") like daisies. Each little part is an individual flower.
Buckwheat Family Dead Horse Point State Park October 4, 2005 This plant has pretty little white flowers with a bit of pink in them.
Composite Family Navajo name -Nííiiniłtsóóz Translation = slender snuff Mexican Hat, UT October 10, 2005 We stopped along a side road near the Mexican Hat rock formation to eat what was either a very late lunch or an early supper out of our styrofoam cooler. I couldn't wait to scarf down my sandwich so I could walk down the wash (dry creek bed) to check out the flowers. Sometimes I'd rather look at the local flora than eat!
