This plant has lovely golden-yellow flowers. It can be toxic to goats, sheep, and cattle if eaten. The toxin is hymenoxon, which can cause vomiting, incoordination, muscle tremors, and prostration.

Gorman, CA March 22, 2007 I found this flower blooming in a small wash below Grapevine Hill, but I couldn't figure out what it was; the other Blazing Stars that I have seen in Colorado and Utah were much larger. I finally identified it when I found it in a wildflower book. I took 2 books with me and bought 4 more. Like I said, you can never have enough wildflower ID books! No wonder I am nearly always within just a couple of pounds below the 50-pound baggage limit!

Boulder City,NV August 21, 2010 I found this plant growing at the Lake Mead visitor center. A Chuckwalla is a large western lizard. I'm not sure if they eat this plant or just how it got its name!
