Aster Family Salinas, CA June 27, 2006 This plant was growing in the fallow field next to the hotel. It is an easy "DYC" ("darned yellow composite") to identify due to the strange white bumps on the stiff, prickly leaves. It was a very common roadside plant.
Aster Family Santa Cruz, CA June 27, 2006 I had seen these little flowers in Arizona in the spring of 2005 but I couldn't identify them. They are like little Fleabanes or Daisies with no ray flowers (petals). I found these blooming along a curbside in Santa Cruz.
Amaryllis Family Soledad, CA - Pinnacles National Monument June 28, 2006 We had just walked down from a long, hot trail when Sara spotted these flowers. It was a big help to have an extra set of "interested" eyes to aid in finding flowers (no offense to the rest of the family, but the other 3 sets were pretty oblivious to anything on the ground or off the trail)! Ha! These flowers look a lot like the Coast Pretty Face that we saw at Pt. Lobos State Preserve two days later.
