Hiking in the Grand Canyon can be dangerous in the summer due to the high temperatures. This sign was at the trailhead of the Hermit Trail, we learned later that it is one of the most difficult trails in the park! It is narrow, steep and not well-maintained. We hiked 3 miles down to the spring. Going down is not too difficult, going back up was grueling. To make matters worse, there is little shade along the trail. When we found a bit of shade from a small pine tree we would rest and drink water.
