Muir Woods National Monument
July 4, 2008
The Coast Redwoods are protected in Muir woods. This trail takes visitors through the Cathedral Grove where they can gaze in awe of the huge, ancient trees.
Coast Redwoods are not as huge in trunk diameter as the Giant Redwoods in the Sequoia National Park far to the east in the Sierra mountain range. However, they are the tallest trees on earth reaching up to 379 feet in height and 26 feet in diameter. Thank heaven people had the foresight to save this fabulous grove of giant trees from inevitable logging one hundred years ago in 1908!
