Año Nuevo State Park dunes
Our last stop of the day (and the trip) was at Año Nuevo State Park. The park is famous for the Elephant Seals that come ashore on its beaches to give birth in the winter and to molt in the summer. A 1.6-mile hike is required to reach the haul-out beach. Part of the trail involves slogging up and through difficult sand dunes and sandy paths. It is worth the effort to see and hear the huge seals.
