We were amazed to watch the Sea Gulls drop mussel shells on the rocks in the tide pool during low tide. The bird dropped the mussel from about 15 - 20 feet, it was interesting that it could find it among all the rocks. After a few times, the mussel's shells would finally open and the animal was gobbled down by the gull. I don't know if this trick is a learned behavior or instinct.
