If you come to Costa Rica, you'd better like black beans and rice! Gallo pinto is a breakfast staple that we ate every morning. Unlike Mexican food, Costa Rican food is not "picante" (spicy-hot). Cilantro is a common seasoning, it is used in many foods.
We loved the delicious fresh fruits, including papaya, guava, mango, bananas and pineapple. Yum! Seafood in Costa Rica is fresh and very good. Plantains are prepared in many different ways, including fried as chips.
We had no problems with the food and water there; unlike other central and south American countries, everything was safe to eat and drink.
