I was very happy to get this photo of a Dragonfly laying her eggs near this rock. Note her mate flying above, a behavior called "hover-guarding". Competing male dragonflies will sometimes scoop out what a previous male has left behind (I have to keep this "G-rated"!) before mating, therefore insuring that he will carry on his genes.
Dragonflies lay their eggs while in flight, dipping the end of their abdomen in the water. They are attracted to shiny surfaces; I have seen them try to lay eggs on the hood of my silver-colored car!
