Red Squirrel Tamiasciurus hudsonicus
Red Squirrel Tamiasciurus hudsonicus
Great Smoky Mountains NP
April 2011
This active little guy was scurrying around the area below Ramsay Cascade in the Smokies. It was begging for handouts, but it didn't have any luck with us! It is against the law to feed animals in the national park, and besides, human food simply isn't good for them!
Red squirrels are smaller than Gray Squirrels and they have a reddish color to their fur. In the summer they may have a black stripe.
