The fruits of this wild gourd are not edible, but the seeds were once eaten by southwestern Native Americans. Coyotes too, eat the seeds; we saw many piles of coyote scat along the Pine Tree Trail at Aguirre Springs that were full of the flat, brown seeds. The plant has very large, pointed leaves and is commonly seen growing along roadsides and on fences.
