We spotted a marshy area on the Florida DeLorme Atlas and decided to check it out. This was the landscape that we found! The "elbow" part of the Gulf Coast is known as the "Nature Coast." I'm sure it is not because the developers were sparing it to be nice. The only reason it has been spared the heavy development that has plagued the other coastal areas of Florida is because there are few beaches in that part of the state. Much of the land is mosquito-infested saltmarsh such as this. Even in mid-December we were bitten by mosquitoes here!
