Sambucus canadensis /Honeysuckle Family
The berries of this common roadside plant have been used to make a delicate pink wine. All other parts of the Elderberry are toxic, they contain the cyanogenic glycoside sambunigrin which is changed by microorganisms in the rumen to form hydrogen cyanide (HCN). I photographed this one along Pumphouse Road in Oak Ridge in mid-June.
