These 3' tall, unusual wildflowers grow in the higher elevations. An individual plant will bloom only every 5 to 6 years, that explains why we saw so many plants that had no flowers in some areas. The Native Americans in the Northwest once used the tough leaves of Beargrass to weave baskets.
