What a thrill it was to find this unusual wildflower blooming in the low forest along the Rampart Ridge Trail! It is a saprophytic plant, it has no chlorophyll, so it has to get its nutrients from decaying plant material in the soil. These unusual plants are red and white striped, just like a peppermint candystick! This plant is still in bud.
