On Sunday evening we arrived at Mounthaven Resort in Ashford, just outside Mt. Rainier National Park. We stayed in the Hemlock cabin. It was small, but comfortable with a little refrigerator and microwave oven and dishes. We never used the wood-burning stove (we weren't in there long enough in the evenings!), but wood is provided each day. The resort has different-sized cabins for 2 people up to families. The owners, Joan and Craig, have decorated the cabins and grounds with antique tools and snow toys. The campground area can accommodate the largest of RV campers. The property has wildflower-filled meadows and creeks lined with ferns to explore and a small playground. For animal-lovers, several hummingbird and bird feeders encourage visits from Rufous hummingbirds, Spotted Towhees, Dark-eyed Juncos, Stellar's Jays, Black-headed Grosbeaks, and other birds. There are even some very friendly Blacktail Deer that visit the grounds throughout the day. Joan and Craig gave us a lot of helpful information on places to visit and hike at Mt. Rainier National Park.
