These Eastern Bluebirds (Sialia sialis) were photographed at the Hiwassee Wildlife Management Area on Feb. 10, 2007. The Sandhill Cranes that we had gone there to see were gone, so we enjoyed seeing the other birds, such as snow geese, various ducks, a red-tailed hawk and even a bald eagle. The male bluebird was the most brilliant blue I have ever seen! His duller colored mate is to his left. I have a hard time getting photographs of birds facing me, I usually seem to get them from the wrong side! Bluebirds stay in our area during the winter.
